About Marina Beach

Marina Beach is having a continuous 14km long stretch of sea-shore. It is the second longest beach in the world. Marina Beach has been a landmark of Chennai -city, since many years.

Broad and long Roads and Platforms with parks are neatly maintained by the Chennai City Corporation. The Marina Beach is a beautiful place for tourists and people of Chennai to pass time peacefully and enjoy. People walk, jog, run and do aerobic exercises in the beach, in the early mornings in the sun light with Ozone- filled pure air.

The statues of many Political and Historic Celebrities are decorating the entire length of the Marina Beach. The statues provide a beautiful sight for the passers by and tourists. The Mahatma Gandhi statue, the Labourers Statue are frequently shown in many Tamil and other South Indian Cinemas (Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam). Marina Beach has become a good location for duets in cinemas. Also the present Mega serials of various channels of Television use the Marina Beach in their episodes.

The Light House, Aquarium, Swimming pool, Anna Samadhi and MGR Samadhi situated along the beach side are visited by the tourists. The Memorials of Arignar Anna and MGR have made the Marina Beach a historic place too.

It will be a nice experience to watch the activities of fishermen in the early morning in the sea-shore of Marina Beach. Fishermen will throw a multiple thorns attached to long nets, with worms in the sea, for catching fish and other fish food. After some time they will pull out the long nets. A number of fishes will be trapped in the thorns in a row. The fishermen will go very early in the morning in Kattumarams and motor-boats to the deep sea for harvesting fishes, crabs and prawns. Many people will buy the sea-food before they are iced from the fishermen in the Marina Beach, at cheap rates.

The Marina Beach has opened regular part-time employment to many people. Many boys and men are selling Chenna-Sundals, fried/boiled ground nuts and Murukkus made of rice and other eatables like hot mirchi bajjies, samosas, mango cuts, baked and fried corns and ice-creams.

There are many two-wheelers and cars parked all along the road-side of the Marina Beach. People walk for exercise in the long pavements both in the morning and the evening times. The City Police Force will be fully busy in controlling the traffic of vehicles and taking care of the security of the people visiting the Marina Beach.

Many people used to sit in the long concrete bench and pass time especially in the evenings. On Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays the entire Marina Beach will be crowded with people from various parts of the Chennai city.
