Playing Cricket is banned in the Marina Beach.
For more than 30 years children had been playing
cricket in the Marina Beach. Many Indian Cricket
players including some Captains, like Srinivas
Venkataraghavan and Kris Srikkanth had played
cricket in the Marina Beach. According to the
Chenai City Police Authourities, more than 200
teams play on the 1.9 mile stretch of sand of
the Marina Beach every Sunday.
As a part of the project- "beautification of Chennai", to make the Chennai city more attractive to tourists the Government Authorities have taken the decision of banning cricket in the Marina Beach.
Playing of cricket has been dangerous to the people coming to the Beach. Incidents had been reported of cricket balls hitting persons. The decision of the Authorities to ban playing cricket in the Marina Beach is a result of such incidents and complaints.
However, the children affected by the ban and
the parents of such children are unhappy about
the ban.
